7th & 8th Grade Physical Education
Course Description:
Pittsfield Middle High School believes that preparing students for the 21st century cannot be accomplished without a strong and sustained emphasis on all students’ health and wellness. Today’s world has exploded with physical, mental, and social influences that affect not only learning in school, but also the lifelong health of the citizens that schools are preparing for graduation. Physical Education prepares students to function optimally as students, global citizens, and workers who demonstrate personal responsibility for one’s health and fitness through an active, healthy lifestyle that fosters a lifelong commitment to wellness.
Pittsfield Middle High School has a unique role and responsibility to address physical education from seventh grade through twelfth grade to instill the knowledge and skills needed to be healthy and achieve academically. PMHS Physical Education Competencies lay out a vision for this discipline, and describe what all students should know and be able to do at each grade level from seventh grade through high school.
Student Expectations
· Students are expected to participate in every class
· All students are expected to be on time. The third time late to class will earn you a 30-minute detention.
· Students are encouraged to have a change of clothes and must have clean sneakers for class. Students that do not have appropriate foot wear will not be able to participate in the day’s activity.
· Students will be given the option to have a Locker in the Locker room with a Lock. Students should keep all their personnel belongings Locked up in their Locker. Do not give out your Locker combination to anyone!
· Respect yourself, your classmates, our materials, and facility. This space is used by many and you will need to take the time to clean your space for the next person. Everything has a home. Please put things back where you found them.
· There is no food permitted in the gym. Water is acceptable in a bottle that can be closed. Please keep your cell phones and other electronic devices in your locker.
Safety:
The student agrees to obey all safety rules and regulations concerning participating in the daily activity in the gym. The student agrees not to place themselves or others in danger by their actions or behavior (horseplay, etc.)
What the Student Needs:
The student should have PE clothes - sneakers, shorts or sweat pants, and t-shirt. Clean sneakers that are worn during the day are fine.
